NY-Paris-NY

A week in Paris...

What can I tell you... Family, friends, small dinners, shopping and more shopping, Paris, amazing Paris...

Sandro, Maje, Isabel, Vanessa, Iro, Manoush, Zadig, Noir Kennedy, Gas, Almost Famous, 58M, AB33, Swildens, Bash, etc... Yes I saw all of them.

A real pilgrimage, but let me reassure you (and especially my banker who follows this blog on a daily basis) there were some I just admired, as the dollars is slowly and surely still collapsing!

For the fashion summary, you will have to wait, but Paris it is also all this...

Its roofs...

Its fab areas, so different, St Germain, Le Marais are among my favourites...

And there are all the little extra things... The ones you cannot find in NY (yes yes there are some!)

No? You don't think so, well let me show you...

The Velibs, or how you can rent bicycles by the hour everywhere in Paris.

The patisseries, and they are so good, people are even queuing for them!

And in no specific order...
The tube, so much cleaner, the buildings which, because they are smaller let us see more of the sky, the museums, the Eiffel tower which shines like a diamond at night, to have a real expresso, the brasseries and small cafes, and above all the feeling that people are taking the time to enjoy life, un je-ne-sais-quoi...

Oh I know... I am so French!!

2008 will be vintage for sure!

The Vintage fair is on again next week end! I am warning you a week before, and showing you what happened at the last one, in February...

Are you ready? Let's enter the wonderful kingdom of Vintage!

The doors opened at 1pm on Friday and the venue filled up very quickly.
Needless to say time flew by and I didn't have time to take that many photos.
Sorry no famous people to report this time... Oh yes, Chloe Sevigny, but I didn't dare to bother her, she was enjoying her shopping, and in that kind of encounter you act like everyone else, as if you didn't recognize her.. And then you talk about her for an hour after she is gone!

So for those who did not come, as usual loads of accessoiries, clutches, belts, boots, hard to make up your mind!

Everybody is looking for that something special, the little treasure you long for. I wanted a clutch, and I found that one, for 20$ I could not say no!

But other came for a coat, a jacket, jewellery or even a prom dress!

I also checked out the Wedding dresses exhibition... A small selection, sweet but I could not have got married in one of them, not my style!

But above all, the most interesting about those fairs is the variety of people attending.

As always, the designers looking for inspiration
Models or actresses... Ok only Chloe, but that counts!
Owners of other vintage stores from LA, London & Paris
Mothers and daughters.
Girlfriends, often out in pairs... Beware of the one who likes something but whose friend adds at the last minute "is this really you?", while trying on the very same thing and admiring herself in the mirror!
Girls just wandering, and whose outfits I wanted, such as the one of this Japanese girl.

Or this New Yorker in a Tibi coat and a vintage dress.

All these encounters make the day fly by, and it is difficult to find time to talk to other sellers, like Molly & Maureen...

They have a store in the Lower East Village and were a lot of fun during those two days: they changed their outfits every two hours and gave us a nice vintage fashion show!

I am afraid that's it! I could go on and on but would end up boring you! So here is my last photo...

For those who want to see the previous fairs in October and November, check it out here and there.

Have a good week, more to come!

And for those who want to go to the next one, all the info can be found here.

One year already...

That's it, I have celebrated my one year anniversary in NY last December.
I am already in my second year.
On 17th December 2006 I was moving to Manhattan, and a new adventure was starting. It was amazing and tough but also a bit chaotic at the beginning. What a journey!
I won't bore you and sum up the whole year, so I leave you some photos to look at instead.

The working world!... And the encounter of the cubicle -office, the feeling of being Melanie Griffith in Working Girl (without the shoulder pads!!)

A few weeks later, less grey...

Winter, the snow, Central Park, the cold, the cold, and did I mention it gets cold, very cold and for a few months. No need to have a sping wardrobe, you go from winter to summer in just a few days!

But summer lasts about 6 months, and the sun shines most days and therefore you just don't complain... In fact you do because it is unbearably hot in August and next year you will buy more sandals, oh and also because of the humidity! Well you start to love AC, like every American!

NY it is also...
Skyscrapers...

Townhouses

And some billboards

NY, or I should says Manhattan, an island of 59 km2 and 1,537,195 people

New York it is all this and many other things, I will post more photos soon!

According to E.B.White, there are three New York; the first one, the one of the man or woman born here. They take the city as it is for what it is, and accept its size and its noise as a normal and inevitable thing
Then there is the one of the suburbian, he works in NY but that's it, he leaves it every evening. And finally there is the NY of the emigrant who comes searching for something.
Three cities, the best one being the last one, where passion and purpose meet.

What about you are you tempted?

So...Vintage

At least once a week I come accross a style I like, or which makes me wonder, and in any case, which reflects the diversity of the New Yorkers outfits. Therefore I have decided to share those Manhattanite looks with you, with some photos taken randomly as I wander in NY.

This week I start with this young woman...

I love the tone on tone, the softness of the colours of the coat and the gloves, along with the contrast of the bag. Her whole outfit is vintage, found in NY and... In Korea!

Do you like it?

Next time I am going to show you some of the Fashion week looks and also some from the Vintage fair I attended in February.
Hopefully there will be a lot more of "So... Something" to come!
