Fashion teaser!

Two other French expats have created a really cool project... And I thought I should make you guess what it is.
They have been kind enough to involve me in their adventure, but before I tell you how, well... Let's see if you can guess!

A French store in NY? No...

The launch of a clothing line... No, you are very cold...

These photos are the only clue I will give you today!

So what do you think?

The answer in 2009!!

Monday, August 25, 2008

So... Summer love!

Are you ready for more New York looks?

So... cool.

Yes because I am rarely in a cute black dress and boots to take the ferry, so I love her style just for that!

So... Happy!

I want the same kind of hat... Click on the photo for more details of her dress, very vintage.

Fashion, yes, 100% NY looks, smiles, laughter and complicity, and above all styles that go together.

So do you think that people with similar styles are meant to be together? Or opposite attracts?

PS: Apparently, thanks to one of my viewers, turns out the guy on the 2nd photo is Jon Kortajarena, an International Spanish Top Model.

So... Sweet

Wandering in Nolita at the week end is one of my favourite hobbies. I discovered the vintage store Sweet Tater a few months ago and I just can't get enough!! If you are looking for vintage boots (fall is just around the corner, seriously!) this is the place to look for.

The store is located on 280 Mulberry street, and if you ever venture there don't forget to check the NYC Market. This little market is a gold mine for costume jewellery, tee shirts and other accessories. Don't spend to much though, and save some for your shopping spree in Sweet Tater...

I will let you be the judge of the potential damage to your credit card...
If there is a heaven for vintage boots, this is the right address!

Not convinced yet? And what if I show you this?

Or even that...

Ok I stop, I think you are probably convinced by now.

You might say that with the 30 degrees outside I would be better off looking for gladiator sandals but with a summer dress, a pair of camel boots will be perfect for September.

And who needs an excuse to shop anyway...?

So... Yellow

With the temperature rising to 35 degrees in New York, everyone was out in their summer clothes today and I had to report some of the fashion I saw in Manhattan.

I have to say I really like this look, as I am a huge fan of yellow clothes and natural leather...

So when I see the two combined together I have to take a photo of it!

I was out strolling in Bleecker street when I saw this girl and her mother. She looks casual and cool with just the right touch of fashion sense thanks to her oversized bag.
A pair of gladiator sandals and this outfit would have been perfect!

So for those who object to yellow, are you convinced now?

Look at the stars,
Look how they shine for you,
And everything you do,
Yeah they were all

NY-Paris-NY

A week in Paris...

What can I tell you... Family, friends, small dinners, shopping and more shopping, Paris, amazing Paris...

Sandro, Maje, Isabel, Vanessa, Iro, Manoush, Zadig, Noir Kennedy, Gas, Almost Famous, 58M, AB33, Swildens, Bash, etc... Yes I saw all of them.

A real pilgrimage, but let me reassure you (and especially my banker who follows this blog on a daily basis) there were some I just admired, as the dollars is slowly and surely still collapsing!

For the fashion summary, you will have to wait, but Paris it is also all this...

Its roofs...

Its fab areas, so different, St Germain, Le Marais are among my favourites...

And there are all the little extra things... The ones you cannot find in NY (yes yes there are some!)

No? You don't think so, well let me show you...

The Velibs, or how you can rent bicycles by the hour everywhere in Paris.

The patisseries, and they are so good, people are even queuing for them!

And in no specific order...
The tube, so much cleaner, the buildings which, because they are smaller let us see more of the sky, the museums, the Eiffel tower which shines like a diamond at night, to have a real expresso, the brasseries and small cafes, and above all the feeling that people are taking the time to enjoy life, un je-ne-sais-quoi...

Oh I know... I am so French!!

2008 will be vintage for sure!

The Vintage fair is on again next week end! I am warning you a week before, and showing you what happened at the last one, in February...

Are you ready? Let's enter the wonderful kingdom of Vintage!

The doors opened at 1pm on Friday and the venue filled up very quickly.
Needless to say time flew by and I didn't have time to take that many photos.
Sorry no famous people to report this time... Oh yes, Chloe Sevigny, but I didn't dare to bother her, she was enjoying her shopping, and in that kind of encounter you act like everyone else, as if you didn't recognize her.. And then you talk about her for an hour after she is gone!

So for those who did not come, as usual loads of accessoiries, clutches, belts, boots, hard to make up your mind!

Everybody is looking for that something special, the little treasure you long for. I wanted a clutch, and I found that one, for 20$ I could not say no!

But other came for a coat, a jacket, jewellery or even a prom dress!

I also checked out the Wedding dresses exhibition... A small selection, sweet but I could not have got married in one of them, not my style!

But above all, the most interesting about those fairs is the variety of people attending.

As always, the designers looking for inspiration
Models or actresses... Ok only Chloe, but that counts!
Owners of other vintage stores from LA, London & Paris
Mothers and daughters.
Girlfriends, often out in pairs... Beware of the one who likes something but whose friend adds at the last minute "is this really you?", while trying on the very same thing and admiring herself in the mirror!
Girls just wandering, and whose outfits I wanted, such as the one of this Japanese girl.

Or this New Yorker in a Tibi coat and a vintage dress.

All these encounters make the day fly by, and it is difficult to find time to talk to other sellers, like Molly & Maureen...

They have a store in the Lower East Village and were a lot of fun during those two days: they changed their outfits every two hours and gave us a nice vintage fashion show!

I am afraid that's it! I could go on and on but would end up boring you! So here is my last photo...

For those who want to see the previous fairs in October and November, check it out here and there.

Have a good week, more to come!

And for those who want to go to the next one, all the info can be found here.

So...Vintage

At least once a week I come accross a style I like, or which makes me wonder, and in any case, which reflects the diversity of the New Yorkers outfits. Therefore I have decided to share those Manhattanite looks with you, with some photos taken randomly as I wander in NY.

This week I start with this young woman...

I love the tone on tone, the softness of the colours of the coat and the gloves, along with the contrast of the bag. Her whole outfit is vintage, found in NY and... In Korea!

Do you like it?

Next time I am going to show you some of the Fashion week looks and also some from the Vintage fair I attended in February.
Hopefully there will be a lot more of "So... Something" to come!

My pleated kingdom!!

Some mornings, I get up and already I am annoyed...
Those days I always take a walk at lunch time, and wander in the 5th Avenue shops.

Friday lunch time, I decide to go to my Swedish friend. And there, in 5 secondes, my mood changed as I met a little kingdom of pleats. I smiled and I left with a new dress, the same one I missed in a cream colour this summer and that our nice Swedish friend has decided to redo in different colour. I let you decide if you like it or not...

Have a look at the "fitting room" shot...

This morning I tried it on to make sure I still liked it -yes because sometimes a dress that I thought was perfect suddenly turns out horrible in front of my mirror. Don't ask me why or how, I still can't explain that phenomena, even though it happens a lot to me!!
Here is the object of my affliction (and I just couldn't wait for the -25% in HM to buy it!!)

After the more casual version with the boots, here is a more evening dressy proposal with patent pumps and a patent clutch (sorry the flash makes the dress much lighter than what it is)...

And now all I need is a big long necklace like this one...

The dress comes in aubergine but also in yellow and green. I went for the aubergine. But I know from a reliable source it will come out in black (my source, the French Glamour, December issue), so I will hunt for it as I really want that one!!
Yes indeed I am not sure about the aubergine. Always a doubt!!

So I guess that's all for today, let me know what you think!

PS: if you see a 34 in black, grab it for me!!i

Don't miss out on this...

Are you ready for some good news?
While all my Parisian friends are having fun with many sample sales, we in NY also have a few good deals. Well first of all, sale started early here (not until January in Europe) and my favourite Swedish friend has decided to treat us to -25% for a few days in December... So get your agendas out and make sure you come with your voucher!

I will make sure I give you more good deals next week, enjoy!

Welcome to the Vintage Kingdom

I don't believe I have told you that my neighbour, an adorable woman, has a vintage store downtown. And a few weeks ago thanks to her I was told there was a Vintage fair gathering most of the best Vintage stores in the state. She sliped an invite under my door so i decided to check it out.

I discovered a good hundred of boutiques and the best of their collections. I wandered for about 1h30 minutes between the stall, looked at clothes but also observed the customers, some in head to toe Vintage, other like me just looking for that special item, a few excentrics (and one drag queen), some with Park Avenue written on their forehead were buying fur coats, and of course many journalists and a few models searching for the rare pieces such as Lily Cole.

The stalls were all different, and there was something to please every taste. Some had some amazing antics and vintage pieces such as delicious sequins dresses, YSL pumps in croc (I am still thinking about them) and a few unique items from Poiret and other designers -my neighbour shop was filled with amazing dresses and attracted the attention of Miss Cole for a while. There were also shops with more recent things, army jackets etc.

As always when I got out shopping I had decided I wanted a pair of boots (I always have to have an obsession) so I focussed on that and that only!... Until I ended up in front of Ms Ladybag stall and her handbag collection, and there I stayed, hypnotised... Some might say to me that an It bag is passe but an It Vintage bag that's not the same right??

The Chanel ones were calling me, begging me to touch them, to try them on... So I gave in... I did it... Oh no, I only tried because I had decided to watch out and not spend.

Ok I admit to writing down her email and phone, and she, Mrs Adrienne Astrologo (yes it is her name!!) will be at the next one in two weeks time. And well it will be Christmas soon so my hubby will get desesperate to find a present...

So I left empty handed, with a happy credit card and buzzing with ideas!

I have new boots!!

What do you think?

So for those who were starting to get worried about my boots quest, you can stop right here, I have acquired a pair, at last!!
There was a lot of hesitation, yes again, but I had been admiring those boots since last summer (however I can't do boots in the summer, fashion has to stop somewhere and my feet said no!) and for this winter I decided to indulge...

I hope you like them!?

Fashion matters

At last Sandro has updated its site and there are some photos of the new collection. It looks like there are a lot of cute stuff...
I have selected a few photos, the Parisians must have seen the real thing already, lucky them!!

I like the collection a lot, and this above is just a glimpse, as the site shows about 40 different looks.
Anyway, this piece of news seemed really important, I had to talk to you about it!
If you are fascinated by this subject, check out a few sites...
Sandro
And if like me you now live in the US, you will be able to find a few pieces on the two sites below

And if you happen to come to New York, the boutique called Noisette only sells French labels (and you can also order over the internet).
